Wow,
My eyes were glued to the screen as I was reading this post, Clayton.
Reminded me on my 'corporate days', when I had to deal with those 'ego-filled' type of agencies by myself.
Thanks for you working off your butt for your readers. I really appreciate it, and your style makes it fun to read, too. (... part of your secret, isn't it.)
Yours John

Thanks, guys!

The good news in all this of course, is that so long as the major corporations and ad agencies continue in this insanity, it gives medium and small businesses a huge opportunity to grab major market share!

In fact, if one were looking for a client he or she could take to the moon, in might be as easy as ...

1) identifying a niche leader that's forgotten how to sell ...

2) identifying a runner-up in that market that is hungry to give #1 a vigorous spanking, and then

3) partnering with the runner-up to create trackable, benefit-based, dominant-emotion-driven campaigns that will seize massive market share.

Keep reading ... we're working our fannies off to load you up with all the response-boosting, money-making ideas you can handle!

Thank God common-sense is alive and well! What's funny is how many times someone says, the day after the Super Bowl, "Yeah that funny commercial. I can't remember what it was for, but it was the one with the ..."
And I can't count how many times I've watched a commercial and had an "A-ha!" moment when the advertising mentioned a benefit I had never considered.
Thank you, Mr. Makepeace, for helping us non-advertising-types with copywriting.

Man, I can't even tell you how many times I watch TV or drive past billboards and shake my head in disbelief!

I'm the kind of guy that's glued to the commercials....not just during the Super Bowl either. My girlfriend tries to start a conversation during the break and I get a cold stare as I shush her. (She doesn't like that very much...at all!!)

I'm with you on this one Clayton. Sometimes the commercials that I HATE the most are actually the most brilliant.

Take Taco Bell, for example. Two guys pull up to the drive thru and start a rap:

"What's up Stephanie, how you doing today...
89 cents is what were gonna pay...
Meet my boy Bobby he's in the back seat...
Yo - gimme a cheesy wrap....
WITH A BUNCH OF BEEF!!"

I know, I know, it's really annoying.

The thing is though, people talk about it and try to mimic and sing it themselves. 89 cents is also an attractive temptation.

The thing I like about that commercial is that it IS getting people to take action. Even if it is to try the rhyme yourself (took me a couple tries). Soon enough, all you are thinking about is Taco Bell.

But yeah, some of this other "advertising" or "brand awareness" is totally a huge waste of money. Sometimes I refuse to buy products just because of how they spend their advertising dollars. Hey - I don't want to see these worthless commercials any more so I simply won't fund them. Howdya like that for brand awareness?

In this age of advertising with lots of information about advertising. One needs to take a keen eye on how to writte the best copy and testing the ad. This knocks my socks off because people in Africa like where i stay do not know about this. This is good and i should keep getting more information from great guys like clayton and others. Thanks man.

Clayton

I enjoy how you boil down copywriting to the essentials with good stories. That is good copywriting in itself.

I just found your site and am glad I did.
