I learned the hard way by blowing through ad money in PPC advertising that was much better spent on particular, targeted keywords that (like a rifle shot) went right to the product they were looking for.  My conversion rate tripled, even though my clicks went down.  Alexa says my site popularity is down beause of less clicks, but I'm laughing all the way to the bank!
