Why Not Lift Your Skirt a Little …

A Little-Known, Highly Underexploited Factor in Building Credibility That Works Like Gangbusters!

Dear Business-Builder,

This secret can be summed up in one word: PERSONALITY.

When you can create a feeling of genuine personality in your copy, people will flock to you in droves – because people love buying from someone with some real personality!

One of the biggest problems with advertising is that most of it’s blindly targeted to the masses. As such, it’s impersonal … distant … and lacks a personal touch.

So it shouldn’t be surprising that people pay little attention to it!

As human beings, we desperately crave the feeling of others taking the time to get to know us – our needs, desires, feelings and innermost thoughts.

When we sense this connection, we’re ten times more open to hearing what that person has to say – even if we know their ultimate goal is to try to sell us something. That’s how badly we want to be understood and cared about!

But when you fail to show personality …

  • It bores the living daylights out of your prospect …
  • It makes the voice behind your copy impersonal and less engaging …
  • It makes your copy far less believable – because your copy feels like just a bunch of words on a page, rather than a dynamic conversation with a flesh-and-blood human being!

So download this week’s Swipe of the Week from Dr. Julian Whitaker for some clues on how to kick it up a notch – and make your promotions more exciting, engaging and full of personality …

And don’t be afraid to hike up your skirt a little!

Until next time …

Yours for greater profits,

  1. WOW…Your headline and subline was so mismatched to this post that I’m almost speechless.

  2. Absolutely. Headline a HUGE turn off. Not even going to read.

  3. It’s been pointed out to me that my headline for this post may be just a tad misleading (Thanks, Mark) and in hindsight I certainly have to agree.

I was attempting to refer to the process of revealing a little bit of your personality in your copy so your prospects get the feel that the “author” of the sales letter is a real … living … breathing human being they can relate to. Not just some wizard behind the curtain of a faceless corporation. In hindsight, “lift your skirt” has more to do with teasing.

Proof positive you should ALWAYS have other people review your copy. Because what you think you mean isn’t always what others think you mean!

On another note: The “subline” is perfectly fitting to this post. Injecting personality into your copy makes it more personal and engaging - and helps reassure your prospect that there is a REAL human being standing behind the product - thus making it far more CREDIBLE in your prospects eyes.

    Thanks for reading …

    Paul

  4. Well, I read it because of the headline. I think we shouldn’t try to please everyone. Do some split testing. Why Not Life Your Skirt A Little vs. Reveal More of Your Personality. Which one gets more views etc.

Attempting to please everyone ends up pleasing no one. btw I write music that appeals to everyone it is pop jazz country classical rap hip-hop r&b x y z and many more. You should buy it you’ll love it because there’s something for EVERYONE IN THERE.

    NOT.

  5. To me, showing your personality, corporate or personal, is an essential part of branding the company. As you pointed out, if people see you as boring, or unwilling to show yourself, it turns them off.
You cannot please everyone, so don’t be afraid to express yourself. If they reject you for being yourself, they would have found another reason, anyway.

  6. @Paul…thanks for your response to my comment. Your well thought out remarks are well noted.

I enjoy your weekly posts…and my comment was simply my opinion.

  7. The same principle applies to “About” pages. Most of them are written in the 3rd person, just like a press release that’s been ordered from some writer. How boring is that?

When I’m looking to buy professional services, I want to know who that person is and what’s the passion that drove him/her to choose their profession. When I’m asked to write “About” pages, they are always written in the first person with a voice that mirrors the professional’s personality.

  8. The headline caught my attention, and got me curious about what it was about. Thanks for a great article.

    Steve

  9. Your headline makes a graphic in most people’s mind, especially in men. To all those who commented-didn’t you see an image(in your mine) of a woman lifting her skirt?

Most men would want to continue reading or see more.

    Just my thoughts on this.
    Paul
