WANTED: Freelancers

Dear Business-Builder,

If you’re wondering where Clayton is, I dragged him all the way to Maryland for a wedding this weekend.

That’s ten hours in a car – both ways.

I even made him buy a new suit.  Thankfully, he was a good sport about it.

Anyway, he didn’t have the time to write anything for The Total Package today.

But that’s okay, because I’ve been wanting to talk to you about something important …

The Total Package is growing like wildfire, and we’re looking to hire some freelancers to help us grow even bigger and faster!

This is your chance to work with Clayton and his team in a hands-on manner.

And it’s the opportunity-of-a-lifetime for anyone who wants to show us and the world what you’re made of.

So bring your ‘A’ game, and sell us on why we should hire you.

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Copywriters who can create marketing campaigns, write stellar reports and great editorial content …
  • Product Developers, if you have experience creating high-quality information products under tight deadlines …
  • PPC Expert, if you eat, sleep and breathe Pay-Per-Click marketing …
  • SEO/Social Media, if you know how to use Social Media to drive massive amounts of traffic and sales …

If any of these positions describe, or excite you – then we’d like to hear from you ASAP.

Please send an e-mail to: Jobs@makepeacetotalpackage.com

In the subject line, put the title of the position you are applying for.

  • If you are a copywriter, please attach a sample of your work.
  • If you are applying for any of the other positions, please attach your resume and include your accomplishments.

Please Note:

  1. These are strictly freelance positions.
  2. You may be required to provide further information and samples. We will contact you with details.
  3. If selected, you will be put into a project pool and contacted when a project comes up that we believe would suit your talents.
  4. Copywriting work is strictly “spec” – which means that you will be paid if the work produced is used. All details will be fully explained beforehand.
  5. Please DO NOT call the office in regards to the status of your application - someone will be in touch with you shortly.

So what are ya waitin’ for?

Send your resume to me right now: Jobs@makepeacetotalpackage.com

Who knows … you might be exactly what I’m looking for.

Looking forward to working with you.

Sincerely,
Wendy Makepeace
General Manager

  4. Hey guys
Just saying thanks for the opportunity.

  5. No copywriter worthy of that title should ever have to work on spec.

"Copywriting work is strictly “spec” – which means that you will be paid if the work produced is used. All details will be fully explained beforehand."

I’d love to see these ‘details’ posted.

  6. This is an incredible opportunity.. Im speachless

  7. I wonder is Clayton works for "spec"?

  8. How about the WSJ submissions/job applicants you received last year?  Have you contacted any of those prospects?

  9. There are a couple of comments about working on spec that I would like to address.

First of all, I’m not twisting anyones arm out there…but, I will be giving some people an opportunity of a lifetime.

I have the phone numbers for some excellent copywriters that I could hire to do these projects.  But I thought better of that idea so that I could try and discover some new talent.  Why not…that’s what The Total Package is all about…right?  Teaching and training copywriters.  Many of you may have even bought our copywriting course, The Ultimate Desktop Copy Coach and put it to good use already.

But, on the other hand, this is a trial and a gamble on my part.  I take a risk in assigning a project to someone I don’t have any experience working with.  I can’t justify paying someone that I don’t know for sure can deliver the goods.  But, if you do deliver the goods, then you will be paid accordingly.

Has Clayton ever worked on Spec before?  You bet!  He’s even told the story several times right here in The Total Package.  And, it’s one of his biggest suggestions he makes to copywriters who need to kick-start their career.  You go to a perspective client, you tell them their current control sucks and that you can write it better and that they only pay you if it does.  Most likely, that client wouldn’t have used you before, but, now they are intrigued because of your confidance and it won’t cost them a cent to give you a try.

Now, any copywriter worth his or her salt, would be able to pass this test with flying colors and become their number one copywriter after the results were in.  Clayton has…and some of those clients are still clients of his today.

I will be reviewing all applications and will probably put some of you through some writing tests before you’re even added to the job pool.  Even if you don’t end up with a job, it will be great training experience.  And getting your name in the game isn’t a bad idea either.

Anyone in the past who submitted their application for the WSJ project will have to go through this new process to be considered.  I’m starting from scratch.  But, if you have that project, you can submit it as one of  your samples.  But, remember, I already selected the best from that group and if you didn’t get selected…I would say it’s not a great idea to submit it again.

Once you’ve been added to the "job pool", and if I contact you for a project, then all payment terms will be agreed upon between both parties before you begin work on the project.  Then, if your copy is accepted, the payment terms will be honored.

I think this is going to be very exciting getting to know some new members on our file and I’m very happy to open up this opportunity to everyone.

    Good Luck!

    Wendy Makepeace

  10. I keep getting a "failed message" from Gmail, meaning that my application to Jobs@makepeacetotalpackage.com didn’t go through.  That’s twice now, and I even tried with a lower-case j at the beginning.

  11. I also get the Failure message from Gmail. Is there an alternate address we can try?

  12. Wendy,

I forwarded my e-mail application to Martha, asking her to forward it to you.

And btw, I see where you’re coming from.

  13. Hello,

I also had trouble getting an email to you through the jobs@makepeacetotalpackage.com email address.  It came back undeliverable.  Please let me know if there is a better way to reach you.  Thank you!

    Colleen

  14. Hey I’d love a few writing bones to chew on!
After hours of soul sucking analytical research and software hell, I yearn to hit the keyboard and hammer out some fun stuff.

Yes I know that this is an affront to the  "serious professional" copywriters out there.  But it is a boon to the sport hungry wordsmiths.
    To each their own eh?

Now, gotta figure out this application thing…

    Colin

  15. HI, I’m also having trouble with the e-mail process. Is there another address that’s working?
    Thanks,
    Janet

  16. Wow!  We didn’t expect to get this many submissions for the freelance positions.  Our mailbox shut down because we ran out of space.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience.  We have now resolved the problem and if you did receive an undeliverable message, please try again.

  17. Hi Wendy

Working on spec is a good way to get your foot in the door. It is how I get most of my clients - lets face it - with the crisis being the way it is - every cent counts for business people.

That is where we as marketing consultants/copywriters can make a huge difference. By helping the client see the value of our services, becoming indispensable to them - we create a partnership.

Now there will always be the chance of not getting paid, or your work used by someone else. The Total Package does none of these and are known as honorable people.

Everyone has there own way of doing something - your opinion is accepted. However, you are not the only copywriter out there.
You have the rite to conduct your business as you see fit - there is no need to judge a spec opportunity for the rest of us.

Writing on spec is how I have gotten my writing gigs and clients.
It is how one of my websites are constantly in the top ten in
    Google for their niche.

I have been burnt before - I am sure a lot of us have. Here, at the Total Package, this isn’t going to happen!

Whoever Wendy decides to use will be the best for that job as this is the way business needs to be done.

In the end it is what is best for the client - what will work for them? Writing spec allows everybody to have a chance to work together and find the solution, team = formula that will work.

Anyways, I wish everyone success in their business endeavors.

I don’t envy you Wendy, there are some excellent people out there.

Martha, getting your inbox flooded is a good thing - shows people care and are interested :)

Gotto go and have my morning coffee,

    Cheers for now

  18. To work alongside such an incredible group of people is a bonanza for us wordsmiths looking to get our name out there - so I’m not surprised that your mailbox filled up in minutes :)

  19. This looks like a great opportunity. I’d really like to be able to get into an internet "work-from-home" vocation, and your website offers a ton of information. There’s so much information that I’m a bit inundated; where do I start?
BTW, I’m the guy that bought Wendy’s FXD; it’d be great to hear from you sometime…
    Thanks in advance,
    Bill

  20. Hi Bill!

I remember you very well.  How’s the bike…do you still own it?  I love my Heritage Soft Tail.

Where to begin…that’s a tough one.  We have so much free content on this site, you’ll just have to start researching the archives.  But, I would also sign up and attend the free event Clayton is having this Thursday.  That just might give you dozens of ideas on what you can do to take advantage of the current economic situation.

    Good Luck!

    Wendy
